One of the biggest attractions in Mysore for nature and wellness enthusiasts is the Kukkarahalli Lake, known for its large expanse of natural habitat in the heart of the city.

Created in 1864 by the then Maharaj of Mysore, Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, to serve as a source of water for irrigation for people outside the city.

The lake is located on the campus of University of Mysore, who hold the ownership rights, donated to the University by the then Maharaja of Mysore in 1940's.

The lake is considered as a protected area and is maintained to preserve its natural habitat. It is accessible to the public for recreational activities such as bird watching, boating and walking.

Visitors can enjoy the unique island, where they can see nesting and migrating birds, exotic species, and the flora around.

The trail around the lake is open from 6AM-10AM and 4PM-6:30PM
